Hiking and Camping gear resources.
Choosing the right outdoor gear can make the difference between an enjoyable adventure, and a potentially dangerous situation. Some things may seem obvious; backpacks, first aid kit, water bottles, comfortable hiking boots. Other, less commonly needed items are often overlooked. These are the items that can potentially save your life. Hiking conditions and weather can change quickly, especially in New England, and if you are not fully prepared, you may quickly find yourself out of your element – and in serious trouble.
When doing any sort of deep woods hiking, mountain climbing, or wilderness camping, I generally like to plan for “one step worse” than I expect. For example, if I plan to be gone for five hours, I bring enough water and food for eight… just in case.
