Short Trails Near Bartlett

Hey all - new guy here! I'm heading up to Bartlett for a week with the family and would like to get outside as much as possible while there. I think my brother-in-law and I plan on doing Washington one day, but we're looking for a few smaller day hikes in the area - in particular, we're looking for a few easy trails (maybe 1-mile loops or so) that we can take the kids (ages 3 and 4) on. Looking to get them involved in the outdoors, but want it to be a happy experience.

Likewise, we're interested in a few longer hikes in the area for us to tackle.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

Looking forward to getting involved as much as possible here!

Indian Rock Shelter

This is a picture of the indian rock shelter where I used to play as a kid.

My grand mother's cows used it as shelter when the cows were in the woods.

I think my grand uncle also used it to hide some of his moon shine, bottles and part of the still were scattered all around for years on the ground.

The roof is about 7' high and the shelter extends in a horse shoe shape for about 30'.

Just thought this was a really great picture of the woods on my parents farm (eastern Kentucky) where I often search for wood to make walking sticks.

The creek runs over a small water fall of about 10' then drops over a 2nd water fall of over 100 ft in height.

Such a peaceful place to relax and catch your breath.

Hello i'm a avid hiker that loves a challenge and i married to a not so avid hiker . she likes to camp and has never been on a hike. She has said that she wouldn't mind going on a hike so my question is where in the new england area is there a beginner hike that we could hike camp for a night and then hike back ? i wouldn't mind a little drive to get there (2-3hours)and i would like if the view would make her want to do a hike again and maybe make her into a hiker.

Do You Use A Hiking Stick??

I hike quite a bit here in eastern Kentucky and I was wondering how many of you guys use hiking sticks?

I kinda have a special reason for asking because, not only do I use hiking sticks, but I also make walking snd hiking sticks here in Kentucky and sell them on my web site http://www.kywalkingstick.com. If you would like to look at the pictures of the walking sticks or pictures of eastern Kentucky, why not visit my web site.

The hills are very steep with clifts that drop off 100 feet or more in the area where I hike known as the Red River Gorge.

Wild dogs are one of the best reasons I carry a walking stick.

Some people like man made material for a walking stick but I like wooden walking sticks.

Please let me know what you think.

Feedback On Freeze Dry Guy

Hi everyone!

I'm not really sure if this is the right place to post this. My apologies if ever it isn't.

Anyway, I've recently gone back doing a bit of camping and hiking and backpacking. My friend suggested to me to try taking some freeze dried food with me whenever I do, 'coz he knows what I terrible cook I am. I've recently came across this site that's giving away freeze dried food from Freeze Dry Guy. Has anyone heard of this brand? I'm really keen on joining this, but I want to get some feedback on how good they are.

Thanks in advance.

Here in Kentucky, when a vine grows around a small tree causing the tree to twist or curl.

I will spend months in the winter time searching for these small trees to make walking sticks.

Some of the sticks I make into curled walking sticks others I carve a snake on the curles.

I am going to attempt to attach a picture of a couple of the walking sticks.

If you want to see more pictures, search google for "Kentucky Walking Sticks".

Request For Hike Suggestions In The Green Mountains

Hello fellow hikers !!

We're planning to spend most of Saturday and most of Sunday in the Londonderry, VT area and are looking for some "good" hikes to do. By "good" we mean:

* not too short: we like to be out 3-6 hours at a whack
* interesting things to see along the way (vista's, cascades/waterfalls, wildlife, etc)
* loops preferred
* dogs allowed

Big "thanks" in advance for any suggestions.

As an aside - we're not committed to Londonderry, but want to stay in the Central / Eastern / Southern Green Mountains. If there's another town more central to a couple of nice day hikes, please recommend.

Thanks again !!
