Hi there,

I wanted to share with you all an exciting project that is starting this year. Randy Pierce has founded an organization called 2020 Vision Quest which will have him climbing all 48 of the 4000 footers. He is completely blind.

Many of them he will hike with his guide dog The Mighty Quinn but some will obviously not be appropriate.

He's recently put in an application to become a Teva Life Agent and his project for that is to undertake Mt. Washington this year.

I am joining forums like this in hopes of learning more (though we have many seasoned hikers involved in our project) but I also hope you might take a peak (pun intended) at Randy's submission and comment if you support his idea. I'm excited to start becoming more of a part of this forum and for my own attempted at finishing the 48.


So far I have done - Lincoln, Lafayette, Moosilauke and Osceola. Moosilauke has been by far my favorite of the 4000'.

Thank you so much. I am excited! It's been so long since I've hiked on a regular basis that the idea of getting out there is almost as exciting as the project.

I'd love to hear from anyone who hikes with their dogs regularly.

Hi there Dudley,
Thank you for the welcome. We are going to hike Cannon next but our official 2020 Vision Quest kick off is on July 4th, we are going to do a 2 day ascent of Washington. I'm excited for the project but certainly equally excited for my own accomplishment too!

Hi NEPilgrim!

Thank you. We are being very cautious in our time planning and having the right people join Randy on each trip. He just took part in a Pemi traverse trip with UNH's outdoor education Backpacking 551 course and he learned a great deal about backpacking, and himself on that trip. We have some great video of him being "shown" the views from Bondcliff by one of the students on the trip...
