I was thinking of this recently & don't know how it would work out, or if it would work. But today I noticed the status post by Andrew, as he's been wondering how to make the site better. This may not make it better, but just a thought.

What if we could organize some group hikes for members of HNE? Whether they be dayhikes, overnighters or an integration of both. Could even have a couple groups starting at different locations & hike to a common meeting place for an overnight get together. Call it the HNE Hike Till Ya Drop Day. Just kidding about the title, but I think you get the idea of what I'm proposing.

So, what does anyone else think of this? Doable, undoable, too much trouble...?

~Steve.

I don't see how group hikes would be a bad thing.

I agree. Although I find it hard enough nowadays trying to line up a date where two friends and I are all free.

Still I'm in. Maybe if we plan it early enough, I'm sure peoples' summer calendars are filling up as we speak

You could tag a group hikes section onto the forum. If anyone's heading out and wants a partner, they could post the route and time, and anyone who wants to tag along can reply and coordinate a meet-up place.

For starters, I'm getting a group together to tackle the Acadia 18 summit challenge again. Including myself, we've got a group of 4, and are waiting for the snow to melt of the last few summits before heading out. If anyone wants to give it a go, they're more than welcome to join in. As of right now, it looks like we'll be heading out early either April 17 or 18 if the weather is good.

I like the idea of having a planned trip section. I managed to go on a couple hikes this winter by joining up with AMC groups, and would have liked to go on more if hiking partners could have been found.

Cool, glad you guys like the idea. Like Fishmonger said, finding times that are good for even a few ppl can be tough. But I like Ben's idea about adding a group hikes section.

Ben, I missed reading of your Acadia hike last year, thanks for posting that link. Don't know how I missed it, probably cause I was too preoccupied w/ myself, but that sounds awesome! Acadia is a nice place, and I haven't been there in 8 or 9 yrs. The view from Cadillac Mtn brought back some nice memories. I'd love to do that, as well as my lady would I'm sure, but we'd probably need to get there the day before, spend the night, hike, spend another night & drive home. It's a long ride from Scituate, MA  . It would be a good weekend excursion.

Agree with Pilgrim and Ben.

Andrew, would there be a way to have a Group Hikes section, with some kind of interactive calendar where people could post their trips? Being the web guy, I'm sure you know of a way. Maybe if we just tried it out and see if it's feasible?

Think it's a cool concept regardless

What a great Idea.

I would like to see a section like that.
