As with all wild mushrooms, always use your field guide to make a positive ID and always cook them, never eat 'em raw
Chicken mushrooms grow on wood, have a distinctive coloration and no evil lookalikes. They get big and can be seen from a distance. They're a little chewy, but they're tasty

Black trumpets are hard to spot as they blend in with their surroundings. They have a delicate flavor and are quite valuable on the retail market. I find them in the woods and in washed out areas next to trails

Chanterelles are common and distinctive looking. They do have an evil look alike, the Jack-O-Lantern, But the jack-o-lanterns grows in large clumps, not individually like chanterelles
Again, find them along trails, especially in washes, and always under trees
