I'm looking to utilize my kayak to get to the 'low-impact' campsites on Squam Lake. I'm in the infancy stages of planning this trip so any tips as to, put-ins, ideal times to go (i.e. less crowds), areas to avoid and good fishing spots would be greatly appreciated.

I answered my own question about Squam Lake. After stumbling across their website and learning how regulated the areas is I have decided to look elsewhere to use the kayak to get to a remote camping area. Any other suggestions besides the islands of Squam Lake?

Without traveling too far, my first choice in New Hampshire would be Umbagog Lake SP.
Not far to the east in western Maine, South Arm Campground on Lake Richardson.
If you're willing to travel further into Maine there's lots of options

How was the experience? Are the campsites piled on top of one another? Or do you get the sense of being somewhat isolated?

Umbagog Lake is looking like a definate possibility this year. The more my friends and I talk about it the more I can't wait to get back into the woods.
