I thought there was a good spot with some pretty big climbs off exit 14 or 15 towards Essex but I haven't been able to find it. Doe's anyone know of good spots in the Beverly/Wenham/Hamilton/Ipswich/Essex part of the world?

Yes, there are several up this way. Ravenswood Park in Gloucester and Coolidge reservation in Manchester are both nice places to visit. There are also walks around Hamilton and Wenham. If you need more information, let me know.

It isn't a big climb, but I like going to Agassiz rock if I have a spare hour or two - easy to get to, fun at the top and a decent hike, though a very short one.

Friday I actually went up to Agassiz rock and had a great time, then explored some of the Manchester-Essex Conservation Trust land right across School street from Agassiz. It was awesome! I'd never been up there before. Nice boardwalk path through the swamp, trails around the swamp, and other trails into the woods. I did the Millstone hill loop. Felt like "real" hiking! Definitely check it out, I only scratched the surface of the trails there. Go up 128 to exit 15, take a left off the exit (if you're coming off north) and drive about half a mile. Parking for the MECT will be on the left and that's where I park for Agassiz, which is across the street & up a short ways.

I agree on Ravenswood. It's also very dog friendly. On a clear day you can get some great views of Gloucester Harbor.

There are also a few places in Salem, Salem Woods and Forest River Trail. Neither will give you any tough climbs but they're nice walks in the woods and easy to get to.

Oh, and Halibut Point in Rockport, love it up there! It's an old granite quarry right on the water with some trails, and gorgeous views!

Hey AC_Rhino - Ravenswood is awesome. Across from Agassiz rock are a bunch of trails. The one you were originally looking for is off exit 14. Leads you to Red Rocks. Get off exit 14 (headed North bound) and take a left. Immediately after you go under the overpass, you will see a dirt lot on the left where people park. It's unmarked. Great Climbing, biking and hiking. you can see all the way up the coastline on a clear day. Hope this helps.

There are dozens of trails in the North Shore area, ranging from short walks in town parks to the miles of trails at Bradley Palmer State park, Willowdale State Forest, and several other state forests in Essex County, not to mention 5 miles of trails in the dunes at Crane Beach . For a comprehensive list and an interactive map of these trails go to the Ipswich Trails site
