Rocksnrolls lists some GREAT ones, but Ron, you forgot the very best....Chocorua!
Plus Welch/Dickey is supposed to be great (yet still I have not made it out yet....got to change that!)
Mt. Pemigewasset (Indians Head) is another real quick hike with a decent reward at the end.

Oh yeah, Chocorua is AWESOME, and surprisingly tough for a sub-4K peak. I'm hoping to do the loop over the Sisters sometime soon!
I need to get up Welch-Dickey too. Thought about doing it yesterday but it's rep for having scrambly bits makes it a daunting hike for a solo winter hike.
And I'll also agree with Mt Pemi being high on the 'bang-for-your-buck' meter. Plus it's right off the highway for easy access!

While not really packed with views, walking around the Livermore road area, with its many side trails, is surprisingly fun! The Scaur, The Kettles, Big Pines trail....all an easy walk right off Livermore road.

As a spinoff of that question, what have people found to be the hardest 4k hikes? Which ones can't be done in a day trip? Also, are there any suggestions for hikes where I could knock off a few in one swoop?

If you do the Franconia Ridge Trail, you can grab at least three peaks from the Falling Waters Trail to the Old Bridle Path. Awesome day, best scenery in the Whites in my opinion. Takes about 6 - 8 hours depending on your speed.

Man, I wish I had known that. My brother and I hiked Osceola in January via East Peak many years ago, and all I remember is an extremely steep and grueling hike. No one had been to the summit of Osceola since the last few snow fall, so we were left wading through waist deep snow, despite the snow shoes, all the way from the saddle to the summit of Osceola. I also remember completely forgetting about the chimney on the way back to East Peak and glissaded right off of it (good thing for deep powder). Then it was a tiring hike back up East Peak before finally heading down off the mountain. All in all, this hike still ranks as one of my most grueling ever.
