Going to hit one or the other this Sunday. Major was pretty muddy and slippery towards the top, so I'm assuming these will be worse, and I unfortunately lack winter hiking boots/spikes.

Any suggestions? :)

Hey, I was going to do a hike in Tuck'away if you are up for it? Bet we could do 7 - 10 miles easy.

Great trails, bound to be empty. Probably see some wildlife, and it's close.

Thoughts?

Chris, I went up Monadnock 3/25, it had lots of mud in the low spots, in the trees down low, there was 6-8 inches of wet , melting snow. The open, rocky areas up top were bare, except in certain crevices. All in all, it was well worth the trip. There was no line at the top like in the summer, no black flies, and the sun was out!

Chris, which did you end up hiking? I want to do Monadnock this weekend and I can't get a decent weather or trail report. Hopefully it'll be nice so I can beat some of the crowds that begin in a few months.

The weather was so nice, I ended up golfing instead. :D

Hoping for Monadnock on Saturday/Sunday this coming weekend though. :headbang:

Unfortunately the weather forecast for the Monadnock area is high 30's with snow flurries. But I dont believe a thing weathermen say until I see it. :finger:

The weather liars are saying rain, freezing rain, and sleet all week for this area.(Base of Monadnock) Most generally, that spells glare ice and slippery conditions on upper 1/3 of mountain. I'll be heading up Sunday morning, STABILICERS in hand. Shouldn't be many people there with it being Easter Sunday plus the doomsday forecast. :uhg:

Approximately 7" of heavy ,wet snow on top of an inch of sleet. (still snowing) Makes for some beautiful hiking when it's stuck to the trees like this. :) Also makes for chest pains and lower lumbar issues when I gotta shovel the crap. Good thing I put the snowblower away for the summer. Now where'd I put the !@#$% key?! Monadnock was expected to get 10"+ above 1000'. Icing on the open summit area.Should be a good weekend for hiking. 40+ degrees.
