Hey all headed up north this weekend. To my amazement there was still bout 6" of snow on the driveway had to hike up to the house. Where there was no snow there was MUD and lots of it. So needless to say if your headed to NH for hiking bring your muck boots!

Snowshoed in Crawford Notch area weekend before last. There was a 25 inch snow base - great snowshoeing. Last weekend headed up to Lincoln and the Franconia Notch area. Lonesome Lake trail was muddy and slippery but easily hiked. Went up Bald Mountain and Artists Bluff, almost no snow on the south face. Hiked the Lincoln Woods Trail and into the Pemi - bare ground, some mud and packed snow mostly on the Lincoln Woods end from people heading up to Franconia Falls. Tried to get up Potash, but couldn't get across Downes Brook. The water was too fast and high and didn't feel like going around. Tried Hedgehog but the trail was broken only as far as Allen's Ledge. By 9 AM the sun had warmed the snow crust and was post-holing in about two feet of snow. Hiked around Echo Lake on the west side of Conway and up (Bryce Path) to Catherdral Ledge. No snow down low and easy going all the way up. A lot of blow downs on many trails. Lincoln area had 87 mph gusts during last weeks storm.

Ya there were a lot of trees down and big ones too. It was just kinda weird to be 75 degrees and standing in snow. The back stream was more like a torrent of white water couldn't cross. Just did some short hiking around the house.
