Ok, So I am planning, as long as the boss gives my requested days off, a 2 -3 day tip somewhere in the Whites. I have narrowed it down to 3 areas. 1. The airline to Mt Adams
2. The Bondcliff/Mt Bond traverse and 3. Mt Isolation. Anyone have a preference out of these three? I know some of the trails around these areas have huts & tenet sites, but what are the restrictions in the whites when it comes to setin up camp for the night. is anywhere off the trail a few hundred ft ok or can i only camp at designated sites?

I've been pondering the same thing. I'm thinking about doing the Lincoln Woods Trail up past still water junction to the 13 Falls tent site. You get to cross the 180' suspension bridge. That thing is awesome.

Satalite map of the Lincoln Woods trailhead off the Kancamagus.

You can zoom out and see where you are.

Suspension bridge! Thats sounds cool got any pics of that. I also have to figure out that fastest way to get to the trailhead. i will be leaving CT very early am on a friday. It's about 4hrs to my place the regular way, the Kangamangus is another hr or so from there. I should go up 93 instead of 91 i think.

here you go..

The trail head is whicked (yes I'm from MA) easy to get to.

93 N to exit 32, Lincoln NH RT 112 - Kancamagus Highway

Turn Left off exit, drive for about five miles (ish - you will pass Loon Mnt.)

It's up on the left just as you enter the unpopulated stretch of the Kancamagus.

Be sure and do some reading up on the trail and tent sites. I use the AMC white mountain guide and it has some good info.

Cheers!

If you're talking this or any other holiday weekend (or any "tourist rush hour"), I'd stick to Rt91
Last summer I traveled alot between where I was living in the Whites and my dad's place near Hartford.
During the week it was 20 minutes faster to go the 84, Mass Pike, 495, rt3, 93 route.
But during tourist travel time it was much less stressfull  to make my way over to 91, then a straight shot down. The only heavy traffic being between Hartford and Springfield
You can avoid hours of stop'n'go
This all depends on the time of day.....yadi, yadi, yadi ... Your mileage may vary

i usually go 84E to 91N to 89S to rt4E to get to my place in NH. So i will hit the hartfid am rush hr due to leaving on friday morn. i was trying to figure out if it was worth gettin on the pike and making my way to 93. Doesnt look like there would be much difference.

The general rule is that you can camp anywhere that is 200 feet from a trail or water source, 1/4 mile from any hut, shelter, or established campsite, and is not above treeline. There are several areas that have special protection and have no camping allowed, such as Tuckerman Ravine (except the Hermit Lake Shelters), Huntington Ravine, Franconia Notch State Park, and others. For the official rules, consult this link

Yeah, I agree. I felt the same way when I got there. I had envisioned something like this:

.. and I would be stuck in the middle, dodging arrows and battling some native head hunters while trying to escape with the treasure and hot, helpless maiden!!

That would be completely badass..

:headbang: :guns: :headbang:

instead I sat on the edge and had a sandwich... *sigh* such is life..
