I don't know about you folks, but when I come across posted land it makes me curious as to what the landowner is hiding
Sometimes I comply, often I don't.
Yesterday while following an obscure trail on what had been public land, I came across two of these.
One on each side of the trail.Posted Image
They don't really say to stay off the land, they just kinda say you're a fool if you keep going!
I quietly turned around :unsure:

Unfortunately, I think land owners put those "keep out" signs up because of the small percentage of hikers, or troublemakers that would go on to their land and have parties, cut tress, or leave trash. I know that if I had a big block of land that was accessible to the public via 'off the beaten path' trails I would probably do the same. Not because I don't want people on my land, or because I'm some creepy old person who doesn't care for visitors, but I would be worried about people leaving trash, or cutting down trees for fire wood, or some hiker getting hurt and suing me. I think the signs at least give a little support to your case if any of that happens.

I hate to admit it, but this a different world these days. I think this is one of those instances where the minority (troublesome hikers) is making it crappy for the majority.

We just bought a piece of property to camp on.
Right now, it is used as the local party place :rolleyes:
My sister wants to post it... I have a real problem with that
I've seen that way too often. Someone buys up a piece of land, land that people have traditionally used for hiking, hunting, fishing, what ever, and the first thing they do is post it.
It's indiscriminate and really pisses people off
My plan for our new property is to put up gates at the access roads and post it
No Motor vehicles

People who recreate on your land can only sue;
1) if you charge them to be there
2) if you intentionally create hazardous conditions
other than that you are not libel
