Anybody ever go on a haunted hike?
There's a old ghost town near by me called Bara Hack that is supposedly haunted.
I know they chase folks away near Halloween, but one of these days I mean to stop by.

Dudleytown  just off the Connecticut AT is a well known ghost town that gets a lot of press
Gay City State Park in Hebron Ct is another local ghost town. They have some good trails but I've never seen any spirits there myself

I've been spooked on the trail before... but never given any credit to ghosts.

One time when my Girlfriend and I were Backpacking, we Set up camp about 50 yards off the trail down below a little hill completely out of sight, we had just turned in when a light hit the outside of my tent briefly. My first thought was "just my overactive imagination" then I see it again flash by, "shit there is someone out there..." I start thinking about the possibilities... "A Ranger? A lost hiker, an escaped felon.... A Ghost.... or an Alien!?!!?" Then the light settles directly on my tent ; "Maybe it's the Ghost of a Felon who was a Ranger killed by Aliens!?!?!" As I was reaching for my Hiking knife for some false security.. (it's a 3/12 inch Kershaw)...... I realized, it was not in fact the Ghost of a Felon who was a Ranger killed by Aliens... It was my friends in their Tent about 5 feet from ours looking for the zipper to their sleeping bags. Apparently Light can shine through tent walls.....

I'm Curious Dudley what are the Ghost towns like... I have a picture in my head of tumbleweed... and rundown saloons... Nevertheless it sounds pretty neat... a good destination for a day trip I would think.

I'm sure there are many others around too.
I remember reading about one in Woodstock N.H. on an abandoned trail between Rt. 3 and Rt. 118
There's probably one or two near Quabbin also

And so there is....

I want to go.

Can anybody just hike this area or are there permits/permissions to be obtained like Dudleytown?

Last I heard Dudleytown was pretty much closed... they weren't giving anyone leave to hike the area. I've always wanted to go back in there too.

I saw this quote posted some where and thought it was somewhat appropriate to this thread.

The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of every wickedness.

Fox
As far as I know Dudleytown is still off limits to anyone
Ct Park and Forest even closes the Mohawk Trail at Halloween time so you can't even get near it.
The land owners (Dark Entry Forest Inc.) don't just chase you out, they call the cops and prosecute

Still.... that kinda stuff never bothered me before...

Part of my fascination with Dudleytown is that it's 'off limits'.... :D

Try Spider Gates Cemetery in Leicester, MA. (near Worcester) Last year it was on Travel Channel's top haunted places in the US. I can usually handle "ghost hunts" but this one scared me pretty bad.

Leicester is actually my home town. I used to drive by Spider Gates everyday going to my buddies house. I never mustered up the courage to go there not because of ghosts but because Police tend to go there a lot to grab teenagers for trespassing. I've heard stories of crazy things happening there but I also heard it is a bunch of hype. I'm shocked to hear it was on the Travel Channel also upset I never actually went there.
