If you follow the link i added in an earlier post, it shows that they are trying to extend it all the way through CT to the sound. They are calling it the MMM trail maybe different than the M + M trail

I've hiked all of it from Meriden, CT to Amherst, MA. It's like the Appalachian Trail. There are lots of segments that are called individual trails however the whole thing is known by another trail.

Example

Crawford Path is a segment of the AT but is a Trail to itself
The M+M and Metacomet trails are segments of the MMM trail as a whole.

And yes, I've noticed many different blazes and ribbons along the route. For most people, it's for side trails to their own property or trail maintainers bounding their sections they are responsible for and marking trouble areas.

meriden to amherst....how long did that take you? I am kind interested in doing some of it myself. Hows the terrain? Typical New England up and down hills.?

I did not do it all in a backpack but rather as a section hike with a group of friends last summer. This year, we're working northwards to Mt. Mondanock when all of our schedules align. It's easier to do it as a group for carspotting reasons and no need to backtrack back and forth. Usually we averaged between 13 and 15 miles a day. The terrain is not that bad. You are mostly walking atop a traprock ridge. Except for finding blazes while roadwalking, it's pretty easy to follow and I can say that we saw more wildlife in Conn than in Mass which is odd because the trail is closer to urban areas in Conn. than Mass.

Assorted Pics from those hikes are located here under the
