Today, the dog and I did a piece of the southern section of the Mid-state Trail in Douglas State Forest
It was my first time on this trail even though it's not too far from home. It's wasn't the most exciting hike ever, but nice to be out there there anyways.
The other day I spent some time closer to home on the North-South trail in R.I.
The N-S trail starts in Charleston RI and heads north up the western side of the state 75 miles where it meets the Mid-state.
The mid-state goes for 91 mile 'till it meets the Wapack.
The Wapack goes on for another 21 miles to the north side of North Pack Monadnock
That's an 187 mile long distance trail that I can walk to from my house.....

When ever I'm on this trail I think about running away from home

It was a beautiful day for a walk in the woods. I mowed the lawn and cleaned the basement. I guess it was a good day for that too, but I'd sure rather do what you did.

I haven't mowed my lawn since July... really !
It's gone from 'shaggy' to looking like it needs a combing

We own a drafty late 1700s farmhouse, and until a few weeks ago it had absolutely no insulation at all.
The push was on get some in before heating season.
There was weeks (months ?)of prep work, two days of blowing in cellulose, then two rooms were done with fiberglass batts and they got new ceilings
That was all finished as of last week.
:dancing-banana:
Sunday (and for some reason he always knows when it's Sunday) the dog was sitting facing the back door, looking back over his shoulder.
The wife looks at me and sez (whining voice)
"Well ? Are you going to take him hiking ??"
What could I do ?

I'm in the same boat. I love this weather, but life seems to be soo freekin busy I have done about 22% of the hiking/camping/kayaking as I planned to do this year.

Oh well, the fall is the best weather for it - I still have time!

I can't win. Myself and two friends planned a trip to the White's this weekend. What is this - rain, cold, wind. I spent three weeks in a tent this summer getting rained on, enough is enough. We have had some beautiful weather this late summer, early fall, but it seems I'm always working when the sun shines. With two jobs how do you get out? It's frustrating. I look at my camping gear, pack and unpack my backpack, buy food and sit in the kitchen and eat it wishing I was sitting on a mountain somewhere. Next week if I have to I'll pitch the tent in the backyard, build a fire and sulk.

It's great when you can travel from this place to that place by train. Travelling by air is much faster than train. But I prefer travelling by train. We can make sight-seeing , we can find out many beautiful landscape on the way....
