The plan came together, the weather was good and I got an early start (for me)
Edmunds Path (c.1909) begins from the trailhead on the Mt Clinton Rd. just south of the (cog) Base Rd.
After a level start the trail rises at a steady rate, the grade never seeming to vary.
The trail is very well constructed and maintained.
Little "celler holes" along the trail seem to be places where fill was excavated to level
That wouldn't happen now
After reaching the tree line the climb seemed easier, or at least more interesting.
I was fairly sure that I had never been to the summit of Eisenhower before,
and reaching it was a little anticlimatic. A bald top with a summit carin.. no place to sit down.
It wasn't lunch time yet so I decided to move on toward those larger peaks to the N.E.
Wandering around above treeline is very cool. No need reach another summit, there is a view from everwhere
I ended up crossing over Mt. Franklin and having lunch on Mt Monroe before turning around and making the long decent.
For a monday, off season, there were a bunch of people on the Crawford Path. More I usually see in places that I go.
A couple of thru-hikers and plenty of older folks going hut-to-hut.
Good for them, but I like my solitude.
All in all a good day
